NetSuite configuration & setup
Configure standard NetSuite first, and shape it around what makes you different. By exhausting native settings before any customisation, you get an account that survives releases and stays maintainable.
Configuration choices are where long-term problems start
Every unnecessary customisation adds work to future releases. Many exist because old ways of working were copied into the new system without being questioned. The skill is knowing which processes your business needs to keep and which are simply familiar habits.
What gets set up, properly
Each decision is documented, so the account makes sense to whoever runs it next year.
- Chart of accounts & segmentsThese are built for the reporting you want, never copied from the system you left.
- Roles & permissionsAccess is least-privilege by design, with who sees what decided deliberately.
- Forms & fieldsYour team gets screens they recognise, without fifty fields nobody fills in.
- Approval workflowsAuthority limits are built into the system so they enforce themselves.
- Subsidiaries & currenciesThe structure matches both the legal reality and the reporting need.
- Documented decisionsA configuration workbook records every choice, so nothing lives only in memory.

What disciplined setup buys you
Releases that don’t hurt
Standard-first means NetSuite’s twice-yearly updates land without drama instead of breaking things.
An account anyone senior can read
The account is documented, conventional and maintainable, so you never depend on the one person who built it.
Screens people actually use
Forms built for the work drive adoption more than any training session.
Controls that hold
Approvals and permissions do their job without a spreadsheet shadow system alongside.
How configuration runs
Design workshop – we agree the structure on paper first: COA, segments and entities.
Standard walkthrough – you see vanilla NetSuite running your processes before we change anything.
Configure & document – the gaps that matter are configured, and every choice is written down.
Test with your data – we test with real records and real scenarios, with your team at the keyboard.
What to know before you start
- !Not everything you ask for gets built. When a request is legacy habit rather than business need, we’ll say so. That conversation is part of the service.
- !Configuration has a boundary. Where standard tools cannot do it, we will name it as customisation territory and cost it as exactly that, rather than bending configuration out of shape.
- !Role design needs your input. Least-privilege only works if someone on your side owns who does what, so expect some homework.
- !NetSuite setup is a finance project. The chart of accounts, tax codes and approval routes carry the business logic, so our NetSuite configuration services put finance decisions in front of finance people before anything is switched on. Each decision is recorded with its reasoning, so the setup can be revisited later without guesswork.
