The problem

Stop running your wholesale operations on phantom inventory

If your warehouse and finance teams disagree at month-end, every strategic decision becomes a gamble. In a £175 billion sector (Logistics UK, June 2026), wholesale managers can’t afford to run operations on phantom inventory. Misaligned systems directly cause oversold stock, bloated capital in over-ordering, and eroded customer trust. Implementing NetSuite for wholesale distribution consolidates your stock control, order processing, drop ship and 3PL flows and financials into a single trusted view, giving you full visibility from dock to door.

What matters in your build

Six things a NetSuite wholesale build has to get right

Wholesale distribution software succeeds or fails on a handful of sector-specific decisions. These six separate a working system from a pretty one.

  • Inventory accuracyCycle counting, adjustments and bin discipline designed in, so the system matches the shelf.
  • Demand & supply planningReorder points, safety stock and NetSuite demand planning tuned to your lead times.
  • WMS & pickingMobile receiving, put-away and wave picking through NetSuite WMS where volumes justify it.
  • Landed costsFreight, duty and handling in item costs – margins that mean something.
  • EDI & 3PL flowsTrading partners and 3PL warehouses connected, not rekeyed.
  • Pricing & marginsCustomer and quantity pricing that protects margin at the order line.

Good to know

Distribution watch-outs

  • !NetSuite WMS is a licence tier. Powerful, and priced accordingly. Lower volumes often do fine with core inventory plus bins – we’ll model the crossover.
  • !EDI needs a partner tool. Native EDI is limited; realistic builds use a provider (SPS, TrueCommerce or similar) integrated properly.
  • !Accuracy is behavioural. The system enforces discipline; it can’t create it. Cycle-count routines and ownership are part of the design.
Common questions

NetSuite for wholesale distribution FAQs

Is NetSuite good for wholesale distribution?
Yes. As an ERP for a wholesale distribution business, NetSuite is among the strongest fits available: multi-location inventory, demand planning, WMS and landed costs are native, with EDI and 3PL handled through integration. The difference between systems that work and systems that frustrate is the build, not the licence.
Can NetSuite handle our 3PL?
Yes, via integration. Stock levels, ASNs and fulfilment confirmations flowing both ways. The design work is in exception handling: shorts, damages and returns.
What does a distribution implementation take?
Typically five to eight months for a multi-location distributor, driven mostly by data quality and EDI partner count.
How much does NetSuite cost for a distributor?
Licensing depends on user count and modules – wholesale distribution ERP software typically adds demand planning, WMS and possibly EDI provider subscriptions to the core suite. Implementation for a multi-location distributor usually lands in the mid five figures to low six figures. Our NetSuite cost and pricing guide breaks down both.
What is the best ERP for wholesale distribution?
For UK mid-market distributors the shortlist usually includes NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics 365 and SAP Business One. NetSuite earns its place where multi-location inventory, native WMS, landed costs and a mature EDI ecosystem matter, and where the business wants stock and finance in one cloud system. The deciding factors are your volumes, channel mix and integration landscape rather than the licence brochure.
