NetSuite for manufacturing
Run your factory on a NetSuite manufacturing build that matches the shop floor. By getting BOMs, work orders, WIP and costing designed correctly from the start, your finance team gets product costs it can believe – built by consultants who know a routing from a routing error.
A generalist build turns your factory into a black box
UK manufacturing is too valuable to run blind: Make UK’s 2025 figures put the sector 11th in the world at $279 billion of output. But all too frequently, orders go in and products come out when the costs aren’t correctly aligned. The result? You have no idea what your true profit margins are – or if you’re running at a loss. Wrong BOMs, unbackflushed WIP and untested standard costs happen more frequently than you’d think, and they are design failures that occur in the first month of the build.
Six things a NetSuite manufacturing build has to get right
Manufacturing is the vertical where design mistakes cost the most to unwind.
- Mode & methodDiscrete, process, make-to-order, make-to-stock or mixed – the whole build hangs off this decision.
- BOMs & routingsMulti-level, versioned and accurate BOMs and routings, with engineering change control from day one.
- Work orders & WIPIssue, backflush and completion designed for how your floor actually works.
- CostingStandard or average costing chosen deliberately, with variances that point at causes.
- Planning & capacityMRP and scheduling that respect real lead times and constraints.
- QualityInspections, holds and non-conformance reports where your certifications require them.
What manufacturers get out of it
True product costs
Material, labour and overhead land where they belong, so quoting is based on real costs.
Variances that mean something
PPV and production variances that point at causes, monthly.
A plan the floor believes
Work orders sequenced on real capacity, shortages visible before they bite.
Our consultants have delivered standard costing migrations, BOM restructures and routing cost builds for UK discrete manufacturers, so this advice comes from live production environments rather than theory.
Manufacturing watch-outs
- !Know your module tier. Advanced Manufacturing adds scheduling and shop-floor control at a price, while plenty of manufacturers run well on core work orders. We will tell you plainly which tier you need.
- !Complex needs may want a SuiteApp. Deep MES, finite scheduling or regulated batch records can outrun native. Sometimes the right answer includes a partner product.
- !Standard costing is a project. Rolling accurate standards needs clean BOMs, routings and rates, so budget the effort properly. Wrong standards are worse than none.
